1. Panel Board Load Evaluation
Flickering lights when the air conditioner turns on? Your panel may be undersized. A professional load evaluation ensures your breakers and wiring are properly matched to your power consumption to prevent overheating and fire hazards.
2. Dedicated Circuit Rule
Heavy appliances like air conditioners, water heaters, and pumps must have their own dedicated circuit. Sharing these with ordinary outlets can cause wire melting and hidden fires inside your walls.
3. Sparking Outlet Diagnostics
A sparking outlet is often a sign of a loose connection or arc fault. If you see sparks, turn off the breaker immediately. Loose wiring creates high resistance, generating intense heat that can ignite nearby materials.
4. Insulation Resistance (Megger Test)

5. GFCI in Wet Areas
Outlets near sinks, bathrooms, and outdoor areas MUST be GFCI-protected. These devices cut power within milliseconds when they detect a ground fault, preventing fatal electric shock.
6. Surge Protective Devices (SPD)
Voltage spikes from lightning or grid switching can destroy expensive equipment like inverters, smart TVs, and computers. A panel-level SPD acts as a safety valve, diverting excess voltage safely to ground.
7. Proper Grounding (Earthing)

8. Extension Cord Safety

11. Pre-Rainy Season Electrical Checklist
Before the rainy season hits, inspect all outdoor outlets, junction boxes, and exposed conduits for water damage or corrosion. Check that GFCI outlets trip properly (press the TEST button). Water intrusion is one of the leading causes of short circuits and electrical fires during the rainy season in the Philippines.
12. Generator Safety & Sizing
When choosing a generator for your home or office, calculate the total wattage of essential equipment (lights, refrigeration, WiFi, water pump). Always add a 20% buffer above your calculated load. Never run a generator indoors or in partially enclosed areas — carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal within minutes. Install a manual transfer switch to prevent backfeeding into the grid.
13. When to Call a Professional vs DIY
Changing a light bulb or plugging in an appliance is fine. Anything beyond that — replacing outlets, installing switches, running new wires, or working inside the panel board — requires a licensed electrician. The Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) requires permits for any electrical modification. Doing unpermitted electrical work can void your fire insurance and put your family at serious risk.
